TradesBackbone SMS / Text Messaging Policy
Effective date: 2026-07-28
Last updated: 2026-07-28
This page describes how text messaging (SMS/MMS) works in TradesBackbone, a software service operated by Martello Systems LLC (tradesbackbone.com), and how recipients consent to receive texts. It supplements our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy and applies wherever the Service sends or receives SMS/MMS messages.
This policy is written for carrier and A2P 10DLC / toll-free registration review, and for recipients who want to understand a text they received. If a product-specific addendum posted alongside this policy describes messaging in more detail for a particular product, that addendum controls on the specific points it addresses.
Who sends the messages
TradesBackbone is software used by businesses to communicate with their own contacts, customers, or leads. When a business uses TradesBackbone to text one of its contacts, the business is the sender and the party responsible for that message's content and for having the required consent. Martello Systems acts only as the technology provider that transmits the message on the business's behalf and does not originate, select recipients for, or approve the content of any business's messages before they are sent. Martello Systems may separately send account- and service-related texts directly to TradesBackbone account holders (for example, security or verification codes), which are addressed in Section 4.
What messages are sent
Messages sent through the Service are configured by the business using it and may include, depending on the business's plan and configuration: appointment or scheduling notifications; invoice, payment, or billing notices; review or feedback requests; status updates about a job, order, or service; and other transactional or relationship-based messages the business has configured. The Service is not used to send purchased-list marketing or unsolicited bulk messages, and businesses are contractually required (Terms of Service, Section 9) to have the consent and legal basis needed for every message they send.
How recipients opt in (consent)
Consent to receive text messages is collected and maintained by the business sending the message, not by Martello Systems directly:
- A business may only message a phone number in TradesBackbone where it has obtained the consent required by law for the type of message being sent (for example, prior express written consent for marketing messages, or a recognized transactional/informational-message basis where applicable).
- Businesses are required by our Terms of Service to represent that they have lawfully collected each recipient's number and obtained any consent needed for the messages they send, and to maintain their own records of that consent.
- Phone numbers are collected by the business directly from its own contacts. They are never purchased, rented, sold, or shared between unrelated businesses using the Service, and are not shared with third parties for the third parties' own marketing purposes.
- If a business has not recorded the consent our systems require for a given message type, the Service will not send that message. Consent is a precondition to messaging wherever the Service enforces a consent checkpoint.
Message frequency, rates, opt-out, and help
- Frequency: varies based on the sending business's activity and the recipient's relationship with that business — not a fixed schedule.
- Rates: message and data rates may apply, per the recipient's mobile carrier plan.
- Opt-out: a recipient may reply STOP (or UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, QUIT, END, where supported) at any time to stop further texts from that sender. The Service records the opt-out and suppresses further automated SMS to that number from that sender. Replying START or YES where offered resubscribes.
- Help: a recipient may reply HELP for assistance, or contact the sending business directly, or contact us at support@tradesbackbone.com.
- Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
Privacy of mobile data
We share a recipient's phone number with our SMS/voice delivery provider(s) only to deliver the messages sent through the Service. Mobile opt-in and consent information is not shared with third parties or affiliates for their own marketing purposes, and we do not sell phone numbers. See our Privacy Policy, Section 11, for further detail.
Account & service texts from Martello Systems
Where you provide a mobile number to TradesBackbone directly (for example, for two-factor authentication or account security), you consent to receive account- and service-related texts at that number. Consent to receive these texts is not a condition of purchasing the Service. You may opt out at any time by replying STOP, and reply HELP for help; you may also manage notification preferences in your account settings.
Carrier and platform compliance
Businesses using the Service's messaging features are responsible for complying with the messaging registration, content, and use-case requirements of the carriers and messaging platforms involved (including, where applicable, A2P 10DLC or toll-free verification programs), and for the accuracy of the information they provide about their intended use case. Martello Systems may require businesses to complete a registration or verification process before enabling certain messaging volumes or use cases, and may suspend messaging for an Account that violates carrier or platform rules.
